vineyard
At Puddleduck we believe that great wine is grown in the vineyard (even the best winemaker can't preform a miricle with bad grapes!) which is why we take such pride in our vineyard and how we manage it. Every vine is cane pruned by hand and trained up through the wires during the growing season to ensure maximum sunlight gets to where it is needed.
At harvest each and every bunch is hand picked carefully by friends and family (bless their cotton socks), and then our grapes are taken to the winery within an hour or two of picking to ensure peak quality, and therefore the best possible end product.
Vintage 2011 saw a very dry drawn out Autumn - great for finishing off the grapes on the vines. They are all now safe at the winery being finished off by our fabulous winemakers, Alain Rousseau and Nick Glaetzer (Congrats on that Jimmy Watson Trophy !!)
After quite a wet winter (just ask Farmer Phil) our vines have rocketed out of the ground and the fruit quality is high. Now we play the waiting game - waiting for the grapes to ripen so we can start the process of picking..... stay tuned.
