Puddleduck Tasting Notes
Made in the dry styles we love to drink, the whole of our Puddleduck range is hand picked from our 3.5 hectare vineyard in the Coal River Valley in Richmond, Southern Tasmania and then within an hour of picking, made in our energy neutral winery.
Our wines are a true expression of what our single site vineyard coupled with the pristine Tasmanian climate has to offer.
Our vintage sparkling is made from 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay and made using traditional methods. Fermented in the bottle, just like the top French Champagne, creates a beautiful sparkling with rich honey toasty notes on the nose, strawberry hints on the palate and a lovely crisp finish and tiny fine bead (bubbles). Great for special occasions or to make and occasion special! $55
Lime and honeysuckle blossoms mingle to create a sophisticated, crisp long lingering finish. This wine is one to drink now, or over the next 2 years or, if you like to cellar then think long term with a minimum of 8+ years. Enjoy with fish/seafood or as an aperitif after a long, fruitful day! $30
Tropical fruit aromas of passionfruit and gooseberry dominate the nose of this wine, with a beautiful mouth feel and structure created by 6 months in French oak barriques. A great food wine. $32
This wine has a lovely aroma of sweet spice and vanilla, balanced beautifully with stone fruits and a smooth finish. The wine was given kid glove treatment with whole bunch pressing, barrel stirring and time on lees for 9 months in French oak barriques (20% new). There is no malolactic fermentation on this wine. Enjoy with seafood, pasta and poultry dishes. $36
It's welcome back to our delicious dry style Rose! This wine is packed with beautiful strawberry aromas and toffee apple notes on the palate. Serve chilled and enjoy with simple foods such as nibble platters or a wood fired pizza! $30
Pinot Noir accounts for 41% of the Tasmanian wine industry. The Coal River Valley is known for producing some of the best the State has to offer. This single site Pinot Noir is an intense expression of what our vineyard can create in a stunning year. Eleven months in French oak barriques gives this Pinot some silky tannins with lovely, sweet vanilla notes and hints of cherry, chocolate and violet. The palate explodes with summer berry fruits. This is a very versatile wine that will lend itself to being enjoyed with duck, dishes with mushrooms (eg: Mushroom risotto) and slow cooked lamb shanks. $48
Verjuice literally means "green juice." This acidic juice is pressed from unripe fruit, (about two thirds ripe) - primarily grapes. Puddleduck’s Verjuice is made from 100% grapes grown in the Coal River Valley. Our Verjuice is made by picking, crushing and pressing the grapes and then sterile filtering the juice before bottling. Ours is as sweet as it is sour, so can be used any time lemon juice, wine or vinegar is needed in cooking as well as for a refreshing drink. We pour ours over ice and top up with soda or mineral water. Add a sprig of mint or slice of lime and you have a stunning non alcoholic drink for AFD's (Alcohol Free Days - apparently we are supposed to have a few each week!) $22
Our aim is to make seriously good wine - not lots of it!
